In the last 24 hours, the conditions surrounding Spring LAD have drastically changed. We have been following the news and any available information regarding the status of COVID-19, fielding your concerns, and listening to your feedback. We want you to know that we have been taking all of the comments very seriously and have been re-assessing the situation. To that end, after an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee and notification from a number of attendees that their universities are now restricting or advising against travel, we have decided that it is in the best interest of the membership, in terms of the risk of health and the value we might or might not contribute to the conference, to cancel the Spring Advocacy Summit and Legislative Action Days.
NAGPS strives to create and maintain a safe, diverse, open, and educational environment for our community. Our goals are to provide our members with access to unique opportunities, a rich and vibrant national community of students, diverse resources, and a platform to advocate for graduate-professional students in all aspects of their higher education experience. Given the current situation, we did not feel that we would be able to meet all of the expectations we set for ourselves and that you have come to expect from us.
The entire NAGPS team is working diligently on exploring options going forward. We have ruled nothing out and are considering all possibilities. We will be following up with additional information and updates over the coming days and weeks, so please be on the lookout for those communications.
Feel free to reach out to the Board with any questions. We appreciate your time and your patience as we continue to navigate this unprecedented situation for the Association.
You are the Association. We are NAGPS.
