UnitedHealthcare Insurance Statement

UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR) will no longer be offering the student injury and sickness plan to student members of NAGPS for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), as well as recently issued HHS rules related to Student Health Insurance Plans, have clarified that student association plans are no longer considered a type of Student Health Insurance Plan under PPACA. These new rules impact association plans only – colleges and universities will still be permitted to offer student health insurance plans. For this reason, UHCSR will no longer be offering the student injury and sickness plan to student members of NAGPS for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Students who have been insured under a plan with UHCSR and seeking insurance coverage outside their own school plan need to keep in mind that the health insurance exchanges as defined by PPACA will not become operational until January 1, 2014. If you seek short-term, limited coverage until the January 1, 2014 commencement of the health exchange, there is a plan with the American College Student Association that can provide coverage until January 31, 2014. (Information regarding this coverage can be found at https://www.acsa.com/student-health-plans.aspx).
