2017 NAGPS National Conference
The 2017 NAGPS National Conference will be hosted by the Graduate Student Organization (GSO) at Syracuse University this coming fall.
Issues surrounding higher education have never been more important or have come into question more than they have in the current political climate. Uncertainty in the future of funding, interest rates, and student visas presents a new set of challenges, but also the opportunity to act by continuing to elevate the voices of graduate and professional students in the national conversation.
The NAGPS National Conference at Syracuse University will gather leaders from across the country for a 3 day conference of leadership development, academic achievement, and the development of the association’s advocacy platform.
Leadership
The conference will feature presentations on leadership development, advocacy, best practices, organizational initiatives, and collaboratory efforts between member institutions. You can submit an abstract to present on organizational and nonprofit leadership techniques. If you or your grad government has an effective and innovative programs/service you offer, advocacy initiative you would like to share,or to present on a problem your government is facing; consider applying to be a presenter!
Research Methods
New this year is the NAGPS Pre-Conference on Research Methods on Thursday, November 2nd. We invite graduate students to submit an abstract, paper or proposal for consideration in the NAGPS Pre-Conference on Research Methodologies. The goal of this daylong event is to promote the exchange of information about research practices and foster visibility of graduate research through the organization.
Advocacy
We will be establishing the NAGPS’ legislative and advocacy platforms going into 2018. Delegates from your institution will help decide on the association’s legislative goals and advocacy agenda for the upcoming year.
The Syracuse University GSO is a long time legacy member of the association, and has worked over the last 31 years to help build up the NAGPS to become the representative body of all graduate and professional students in the United States. We are excited to be heading back to Syracuse for this year’s national conference.
Information on registration, submitting abstracts, and accommodations will be available soon. If you have any questions you can reach Vice President Joseph Verardo at vice-president@nagps.org, and Conference Director Peta Leitermann-Long at conference@nagps.org. We look forward to seeing you this November in Syracuse!
