Melanie Thornton | Director of Communications

Melanie grew up in Houston, Texas and received her BS in Environmental Geoscience with an emphasis in Climate Science and Oceanography from Texas A&M University. She immediately earned her MS in Environmental Science with a focus on renewable energy resources and policy from Washington State University (WSU). Currently, Melanie is a Doctoral Candidate in the School of the Environment at WSU, where she works with water resource stakeholders on collaborative water resources management in the Pacific Northwest. Melanie is very passionate about communicating science and her research to a broad audience, and is interested in the nexus of science communication and public policy.

Prior to being elected as NAGPS Director of Communications, Melanie served as the 2015 Director of Communication and Outreach, and the 2014 Social Justice Chair for the NAGPS Western Region. Aside from her service to NAGPS, Melanie is the current Graduate-Professional Student Body President and serves on a variety of university committees at WSU. She also serves as a member of the Chapter Advisor Board for the Kappa Delta sorority chapter at Washington State University.

As NAGPS Director of Communications, Melanie is in charge of all internal and external communications of NAGPS.
